One of the biggest investments you, our parents, can make in our program is your time. We understand that volunteering can be challenging with all our busy schedules, but all RAAA Youth Sports programs cannot be successful without the help and support from our community. Through volunteering, our baseball program is able to secure the necessary funds keep our registration fees low, help run our program, provide for equipment and keep our fields in great shape.
As with past years, we are asking each family to help with fundraising activities by committing to at least one event from the opportunities listed below. For 2017, this requirement applies to families who have players in ages 9 through 13 (other age levels are welcome to volunteers if spots are not being filled). We will be collecting a volunteer/uniform deposit of a $100 which will be torn up upon satisfaction of the volunteer requirement and return of the player’s uniform.
For the 2017 season, our Baseball Volunteer Calendar started September 2016 and goes through August 2017. If you volunteered in any events starting during this time, it will count towards your 2017 requirement. Refer to the volunteer listing on this page that highlights families that have satisfied their volunteer requirement.
As each volunteer opportunity approaches, we will be sending out email communications about the event.
Though we have several opportunities to fulfill your volunteer hours, the most important one is signing up to Coach. We cannot stress enough how important coaches are to the success of our program, especially at the minor league levels, as we tend to have the most teams there. We have practice plans available, links to instruction videos and our Minor League Coordinator is available for any questions or guidance you may need. Therefore, we ask that you please consider this responsibly as one of our top priorities to fill.
This opportunity is one of our regular events occurring approximately every 6 weeks, as it is a rotated among the other RAAA Youth Sports programs. It occurs every Monday with typically three spots available for each event. You can sign up using our Google Doc link on the main Rockford site or click here.
MYAS State Basketball Tournament
Each year during the month of March, our RAAA Basketball players participate in their State Tournament. This is a significant fundraiser for all RAAA Sports, but also a great opportunity to help ensure a successful tournament. To help support this event, each RAAA Sport is allocated a number of volunteer spots to fill (around 30 spots) in order to collect their “fair share” of the proceeds. In addition, if your children are 12 years or older, I highly encourage them to help out as well and support our programs. The tournament is regularly held the second weekend in March.
Each year, we conduct evaluations for ages 9 through 16 at the Rockford Community Center. During this event, we need parents to help out with registration and uniform sizing. This year, our evaluations are on Sunday, April 9 from approximately 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. We will break our volunteer hours into three shifts of two hours each. Generally, we are looking for 10 volunteers to cover all the shifts.
If you are interested in this event, please contact John Blanchard at email@example.com.
Bankwest Baseball Field Maintenance
Bankwest Field continues to be one of the nicest fields to play at in our league. We love our community support and thank you so much in helping to keep this field and park in top notch condition. Twice a year (Spring and Fall), we will get a group of parents together to perform necessary field maintenance to ensure our field continues to be the best in the league.
For 2017, our Spring Maintenance event will occur on Saturday, April 29th from approximately 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Generally, we are looking for 15 volunteers to help out during the Spring and Fall times. Food and beverage will be provided for everyone. If weather does not cooperate, the event will be moved to Sunday, April 30 staring at 12:00 pm. Our Fall Maintenance Event dates are currently TBD.
Dan Sanderson is our Bankwest field manager and coordinates this opportunity. Please contact Dan at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in volunteering.
Greenfield Baseball Field Maintenance
Similar to our Bankwest Maintenance opportunity, we would like to take the same approach with our Greenfield baseball field which houses our 8U teams.
For 2017, our Spring Maintenance event will occur on Saturday, April 22 from approximately 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Generally, we are looking for 10 volunteers to help out during the Spring and Fall times. Food and beverage will be provided for everyone. If weather does not cooperate, the event will be rescheduled to a later date. Our Fall Maintenance Event dates are currently TBD.
Nick Schuster is our 8U Coordinator and will manage this opportunity. Please contact Nick at email@example.com if you are interested in volunteering.
